Description
Silence in this book is an artist’s book conceived as an act of visual and conceptual subtraction, inspired by the broader research of Naufrago. The work condenses its meaning into an extended and continuous vision, where the image does not narrate the event of shipwreck but assumes its condition. The book functions as an object to be traversed rather than read, inviting a slow, attentive, and non-spectacular gaze. Silence here becomes a form of presence—a reflective space in which the image resists simplification and documentary reduction.
Technical Note
The images are produced on black-and-white 4×5″ negative film.
The work includes a single photograph measuring 30 × 180 cm, printed as a Fine Art giclée on Hahnemühle Photo Rag 308 paper.
The front and back covers are printed on Hahnemühle Photo Rag Fine Art paper in the format 30 × 30 cm and mounted on a 2 mm aluminium support.
The back cover consists of two plexiglass sheets enclosing vegetal elements.
Each copy is conceived as an autonomous artistic object.
Silence in this book is an artist’s book conceived as an act of visual subtraction, inspired by the broader research of Naufrago. The work condenses its meaning into a single extended photograph (30 × 180 cm), printed as a Fine Art giclée on Hahnemühle Photo Rag 308, where the image does not narrate the shipwreck but assumes its condition. All images are produced on black-and-white 4×5″ negative film, emphasising a slow, disciplined photographic process. The cover, printed on Fine Art paper and mounted on aluminium, asserts the physical presence of the book as an object. The back cover, composed of plexiglass layers enclosing vegetal elements, introduces transparency and organic matter as silent traces of life. The book invites a suspended, attentive gaze, where silence becomes a space of reflection rather than absence.
