The Metaphysical Land is an artist’s book by Attilio Scimone, conceived as a unified work in which photography, book form, and material presence are inseparably intertwined.
The project moves beyond the traditional notion of landscape to explore the relationship between nature, history, and time, understood as surfaces in continuous transformation.
The volume, handcrafted and housed in a wooden container, presents a sequence of images that do not describe but retain traces, marks, and stratifications of the real.
Inside, a case contains ten original gelatin silver prints, printed by the artist and mounted in passe-partout, forming the material and collectible core of the work.
The limited edition of one hundred copies, articulated through variations of the cover, reinforces the idea of a non-static work undergoing continuous metamorphosis.
The Metaphysical Land thus takes shape as a visual and temporal device for reflection, in which the book becomes a site of concentration, memory, and duration.
